There are fresh concerns in India about another COVID-19 wave, even as the current outbreak seemingly comes under control. The country has reported fewer than 50,000 cases for the first time in three months. However, three states have reported cases of a mutated version of the Delta variant, known as Delta Plus. It’s unclear how the new variant differs from the highly transmissible original, which was responsible for the catastrophic surge in cases during the second wave. Experts had warned that India’s slow vaccination rate will give the coronavirus enough room to keep mutating.
