About:
Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger- than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.

The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

  1. Memory
Turn your face to the moonlight
    Let your memory lead you
    Open up enter in
    If you find there
The meaning of what happiness is
Then a new life will begin
    Memory
    All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
    I was beautiful then
    I remember
The time I knew what happiness was
    Let the memory
    Live again
Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
    A street lamp dies
    Another night is over
    Another day is dawning
    Daylight
I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
    And I mustn't give in
    When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin
Sunlight through the trees in summer
    Endless masquerading
Like a flower as the dawn is breaking
    The memory is fading
    Touch me
It's so easy to leave me
    All alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun
    If you touch me
    You'll understand what happiness is
    Look, a new day
    Has begun

  2. So I’ve never seen the musical or the movie but I saw a video comparing the two and after hearing the vocals, especially the intensity of ‘touch me, it’s so easy to leave me’ I couldn’t get it out of my head and had to look it up. So amazing!

  3. honestly removing jemima was one of the worst errors Hooper did. why make victoria the main character of the movie when jemima was the one who literally reached out to grizzabella by singing memory when grizabella had given up- I mean how can that be forgotten???

  5. This really makes me evaluate how I view performing arts. For me, Cats is one of those plays where the pieces are more than what they create. I can't say I like the play, but I think the dancers are fantastic, the singing is amazing and you can tell the artists who worked on the costumes, set and props really gave it their all.

Perhaps, we don't have to love everything about a show or a performance. We can just enjoy the talent inside it.

  6. I never seen the musical, nor heard this before.
Strangely enough, I saw the lyrics one random day, and somehow I know the song by heart…

I cannot stop singing it since then, and this is the first time I searched for a recording.

Before I even knew it, I was tearing up.

I could not understand why listening to it felt so familiar, I could not understand how I knew it when I barely heard it before, I could not understand what I was feeling….

Although I am certain that this piece is and has always been a part of my heart🤍and I'm thankful that it exists

  7. My family and I went to see the live version of Cats back in around 2015. I remember my mum was sitting next to me and this song was playing, I was so drawn in to the performance that just after that, my mum started blowing her nose and I looked over and I saw the tears run down her face.

  8. the definitive performance of CATs. I have seen this live a few times, and i ALWAYS get chills, but nobody delivers like Page (IMO) that 'look! a new day, has begun' is just beautiful…

  9. I know this song is about a hooker cat who wants to die so she can be born again, but goddamn: what that belt do. I legit get 'Vesti la Giubb' flashbacks when she hits her climax.
