Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has joined the ownership group of Everton Football Club of the Premier League.

The club did not disclose Kidd’s financial stake in Roundhouse Capital Holdings, which is part of The Friedkin Group. Friedkin took over ownership of Everton in December.

“I’m honored to be joining Everton’s ownership at such an important moment,” Kidd said in a news release. “With a new stadium on the horizon and a bright future ahead, it’s a great moment to come on board.”

Kidd, who grew up playing youth soccer in Oakland, Calif., invested in soccer clubs in his hometown — The Roots (USL Championship) and the Soul Sports Club (USL W-League) — in 2023.

Last year, he was part of a group seeking to buy a stake in Premier League club Crystal Palace, The Athletic reported in November.

Kidd, 52, was a 10-time NBA All-Star as a player and won the 2011 NBA title with the Mavericks. He won two Olympic gold medals with his U.S. teammates and was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

He has coached the New Jersey Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Mavericks.

Those experiences will benefit Everton, said Marc Watts, the executive chairman.

“As one of the NBA’s greatest players and now a successful coach, his knowledge and winning mentality will be an incredible resource for Everton,” Watts said.

“He is a respected leader and household name for many sports fans and will bring a deeper understanding of high performance as we collectively strive to build a brighter future for this storied club.”
