Sanju Samson was rewarded for his brilliant run of form in the ongoing IPL 2024 as he was included in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 as the second wicket-keeping option. There was tough competition for the spot as he was chosen ahead of big names like KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik and Ishan Kishan. However, following the selection, the biggest topic of discussion has been the batting position where the team can use Samson. While the wicket-keeper batter is a constant No. 3 for Rajasthan Royals in IPL, experts and fans believe that he will have to bat at No. 5 due to the presence of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav who have batted at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively over the years.

Samson was recently asked about the reports and he quickly pointed out that the batting position is not a major concern at the moment and his focus is completely on winning the IPL.

“That’s a very tricky question,” Samson told Star Sports.

“We definitely were thinking about it; everyone is thinking about the batting positions… Sanju kahan batting karega and all (where will Sanju bat). But equally, I feel it is also important for the team that they try to win the IPL. As of now, winning the IPL is more important. The players should focus on that goal only,” the RR captain added.

Samson has been a top performer for his franchise till now and he has 385 runs to his name at a blistering strike rate of 161.08. With 16 points for 9 matches, RR are on the verge of IPL playoff qualification and the role played by Samson was instrumental in ensuring his T20 World Cup berth.

He will have to compete with Rishabh Pant when it comes to the wicket-keeping role in the Indian cricket team at the World Cup but his form can make the team management use him as a specialist batter as well.
