Cameron Harper scored a goal in the 42nd minute to fuel the New York Red Bulls to a 2-0 victory over D.C. United on Saturday night in Washington, D.C.

New York’s Mohammed Sofo scored in second-half stoppage time and Wiki Carmona and Emil Forsberg each notched an assist.

Carlos Coronel finished with five saves for the Red Bulls (6-6-3, 21 points), who recorded their first road win of the season (1-5-2). New York also improved to 7-1-2 in its last 10 matches across all competitions against D.C. United.

Luis Barraza made four saves for D.C. United (3-7-5, 14 points), who were unable to take advantage of four corner kicks to see their winless stretch extend to four matches (0-2-2).

D.C. United played without leading goal scorer Christian Benteke (ankle) as well as Dominique Badji (thigh) and Lukas MacNaughton (thigh).

New York opened the scoring following a brilliant passing sequence in the 42nd minute.

Stationed at the top of the box, Forsberg quickly sent a diagonal feed deep to the right side for Harper, who unleashed a shot that sailed just inside the far post for his second goal of the season.

The Red Bulls weathered the storm from there, clinging to a slim one-goal lead before Sofo provided the exclamation point late.

Soto scored in the 95th minute for his third goal of the season. He also tallied in New York’s victory over FC Dallas in U.S. Open Cup play on Wednesday.

Barraza came up large early in the match to thwart a 2-on-1 rush in the 10th minute. Omar Valencia’s centering feed found an unmarked Forsberg, but Barraza denied the midfielder from short range.

Coronel was up to the task nine minutes later, making a double-leg save on Jacob Murrell.
