There was no salvaging of pride for the Mumbai Indians who suffered another defeat in what has been a torrid Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs in a rain-affected match on Saturday. For MI, the opening duo of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma gave a fine start but the middle-order failed to capitalise on the platform and their chase of 158 runs derailed. For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine were exceptional with the ball yet again, with the former taking home the Player of the Match award for his figures of 2/17.

IPL 2024 Points Table

Mumbai, who have now lost their 9th match in 13 games, were already out of the playoffs race. The defeat saw them remain 9th in the points table, right above the Punjab Kings who have a game in hand. Kolkata, courtesy of the win, booked their spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs, becoming the first team this season to do so. Rajasthan Royals, presently placed second, however, can topple them in the games to come.
