The Insperity Invitational didn’t get very far Friday before the first round was halted due to lightning in the vicinity of The Woodlands (Texas) Country Club.

All 78 players in the field had gotten on the course, but none had finished their rounds. The first round will resume Saturday at 7:45 a.m. local time before the second round in played.

Eight players were tied for the lead at 4 under par when the horn sounded: Brett Quigley, Billy Andrade, Ken Tanigawa, Chad Campbell, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, Mike Weir of Canada, South Korea’s Y.E. Yang and South Africa’s Ernie Els.

Billy Mayfair and Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez were tied at 3 under.

Quigley had three birdies in a row at Nos. 11-13 to get to 4 under, then briefly touched 5 under with a birdie at No. 15 before he bogeyed the following hole. He had two holes to play when he was summoned off the course.

“Yeah, one and a half (holes). I’m on the fairway on 17,” Quigley said. “So, yeah, it’s a bummer, but everybody’s gotta deal with it tomorrow because nobody finished.

“… Not unusual. We expect it, so it’s not a big deal.”

Andrade had started his round on the back nine with three birdies and added a fourth at the par-5 first hole. He was bogey-free and was three holes from finishing his round.

“We all want to finish so we can sleep in a little bit,” Andrade said. “And then have to get back out there at 7:45, it’s not ideal, especially at our ages. But it is what it is. And you just have to accept it and go forward. We’re all in the same boat. Everyone’s got to do this, and we just go out and do the best we can.”
